FREE THINKING:
EXPLORE THE REALMS OF KNOWLEDGE

You've Got TO Pick A Pocket Or Two

The five richest men in the world have doubled their fortunes in the last five years whilst the poorest, an estimated 60% have seen their incomes fall considerably. The gap between the rich and poor grows, not merely in terms of wealth, but also the resultant effects of such an imbalance, like climate change and life expectancy, to name but a few.

In most major economies the accumulation of wealth is central to growth, this is the Capitalist ideology.  Karl Marx, the great Philosopher once said, ‘Capital is dead labour, that, vampire-like, only lives by sucking living labour, and lives the more, the more labour it sucks’.

Central to this methodology is Economic growth, which refers to the increase in the size of a country’s economy over a set period. While the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is widely used, there are ongoing discussions about its limitations, especially in capturing non-monetary aspects of well-being, environmental sustainability, and social progress. Perhaps there is more to life than money.

The science fiction series, ‘The Next Generation’ sees humanity as being no longer reliant on money and greed. Technology means that everyone has food, shelter and health; these are the norm for all people.

In recent times we have seen the emergence and ongoing development of AI (Artificial Intelligence). The consequences of this advancement give us the possibilities for the improvement of the lives of all species. Science Fiction could become reality in the not-too-distant future

However, seeing humanity’s track record; most recently the disregard for the growing environmental disaster facing the planet, one might be less than optimistic concerning the future.

Unless we jettison ‘Capitalism’ humanity faces a bleak future, one that might be shorter than many who are alive today would imagine.
